Garden RecipesWe started growing indoors because apparently having a garden outside wasn’t enough chaos.
What began as a little hydroponic experiment quickly became shelves of greens, herbs, tiny roots, grow lights, and the very specific joy of checking on new leaves every morning. There’s something a little magical about growing food in the middle of the house, especially while dreaming about the someday version of life with more land, more garden beds, fruit trees, chickens, a greenhouse, and probably far too many projects happening at once.
For now, this is our tiny indoor homestead. A place to learn what grows, what fails spectacularly, what we actually eat, and how much food can come from a surprisingly small space. We may not have the acreage yet, but we’re practicing for it one basil leaf at a time.
Garden to Table
Some of our favorite recipes start with whatever the garden is giving us that week. Lots of leafy salads, herbs snipped straight into bowls, edible flowers because apparently we like our lunch a little dramatic, and kohlrabi in all the ways we can think to use it.
We also love growing the things that can be a little more temperamental outside here, like broccoli and peppers, especially when hydroponics gives us a bit more control. These recipes are less about following a perfect harvest plan and more about looking at what’s growing, bringing it into the kitchen, and figuring out what sounds good from there.

“Then I step out into the garden, where the gardener, who is said to be a simple man, is tending his children, the roses.”
— Mary Oliver, “The Gardener” (from A Thousand Mornings)
